Reinforced lignin polymer beams: a direct replacement for hardwood bridge beams
During the last six years Carbonloc Pty Ltd has been working in close collaboration with Queensland Main Roads on the development of a fibre composite bridge beam alternative to replace hardwood timber bridge girders. This project was supported financially by the Research-Industry Partnership program of the Queensland Government. In early 2012 a number of Carbonloc’s beams were tested extensively by the University of Southern Queensland as part of this development project. This testing showed that the beams exceeded the performance criteria set by Main Roads by a substantial margin. This paper presents the results of this testing program.
