Design of Drakeford Drive cable stayed pedestrian bridge
This paper discusses the new cable-stayed pedestrian bridge over the Drakeford Drive, a 6-lane major arterial road in Kambah, ACT. The bridge is required to provide access to a new school, located on the west side of the road and at the comer of O’Halloran Circuit and Drakeford Drive. Cardno carried out an options study to determine possible bridge types and configurations that would meet the requirements of Roads ACT. The bridge was required to blend with the existing landscape and its cost had to be within the client’s budget. This paper discusses the design constraints, concept development, design calculation, constructability consideration and maintenance aspects of the bridge.
