Upgrading of Great Western Highway overbridge, Mount Victoria NSW

Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) engaged Hyder Consulting to undertake investigation and concept design of the upgrading and rehabilitation/repair associated with the Great Western Highway overbridge that crosses the Main West railway line at Mount Victoria, on the western edge of the Blue Mountains, approximately 120 kilometres west of Sydney. The project involved investigation, concept design and detail design of rehabilitation/repair to defects primarily associated with the bearings and deck joints and also stabilisation of wing wall tilting. An investigation was also required regarding the adequacy of the existing traffic barriers and the need to upgrade these traffic barriers based on a risk assessment in accordance with AS 5100 Bridge design and RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) Bridge Technical Direction BTD2007/08 Design of Replacement Traffic Barriers on Existing Bridges.
