A method of predicting future population and motor vehicle numbers in local authority areas and regions for economic evaluation of road projects
Estimates for a future year of the number of motor vehicles in individual towns and localities are fundamental for predicting future traffic flows on specific roads. This paper describes a method of predicting motor vehicle numbers for a large number of locality areas in Western Australia. The method used involves first estimating the population of the localities by examining the expected employment potential in each area, and then estimating motor vehicle per person ratios to determine motor vehicle numbers (a).
