Planning and development of road network for the johor tenggara region of Malaysia

In planning for the road network in the johor tenggara region, attempts were made to integrate the proposed developments of agriculture, forestry and tourism with a hierarchy of settlements both in and near the area. Three classifications of roads (primary, secondary and tertiary) have been recognised in the planning of the road network. While each type serves its own function, they work in combination to provide access to the project area and circulation within it. The building of the road network in phases has been directly related to the programme of forest clearing and the planting of rubber and oil palm. The design of the (tertiary) agricultural road system has been based on experience in other land schemes. This integrated approach to the planning and the design helped to minimize costs of infrastructure. The staging of construction programmes also helped to reduce the rate of capital outlay.
