The sense of low-cost roads in Indonesia's road development program
This paper discusses the low cost road development in Indonesia. The ability of the government to provide funds for the development of the road system is limited. The necessary funds are obtained by : a) charging the road user directly to reduce the balance in the budget b) minimising the investment cost at any time. A road structure which needs very low investment has been undertaken to mean that this will give unstable serviceability. The performance, service life, durability of existing indonesian roads are evaluated. Improvements, treatment and repairs made on these roads are also outlined. The paper concludes by discussing the desirable and necessary features of low cost roads in Indonesia.
