17th Congress of IABSE. Creating and Renewing Urban Structures. Tall Buildings, Bridges and Infrastructure

The 17th International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Congress focuses on issues related to urban habitats and their surrounding structures including tall buildings, bridges, large-scale structures and infrastructure as well as new materials. It marks the 100-year anniversary of the Plan of Chicago's development, at the dawn of the 21st century for which humanity is facing many new challenges to make our world sustainable. The themes of the Congress sessions reflect these challenges as well as the numerous aspects of structural engineering such as design, construction, strengthening and upgrading as well as emphasizing learning from experience, education and creativity. The selected topics keep in mind the ever present need for engineers worldwide to exchange information on the evolving practice of civil engineering. Topics covered include: wind dynamics and damping structures; techniques for evaluating bridges; long span bridges; adaptive reuse and sustainability of structures; strengthening and upgrading bridges; techniques for evaluating bridges; creative design and urban bridges; urban infrastructures; analysis and design of bridges; materials for technology for bridges; rehabilitation and replacement of bridges; impact loads on structures and performance based designs; forensic investigation of structures; and ways and means: bridges and excavations.
