COEFFICIENTS FOR DESIGNING SLABS OF BEAM-AND-SLAB PANELS BY THE YIELD-LINE THEORY

BENDING-MOMENT COEFFICIENTS WERE PRESENTED IN THE 1969 ISSUE OF CONCRETE, TO FACILITATE THE DESIGN BY YIELD-LINE THEORY OF RECTANGULAR SLABS FREELY SUPPORTED ALONG THE EDGES AND SUBJECTED TO UNIFORM LOAD. WHEN THE SLABS ARE SUPPORTED ON AND ARE INTEGRAL WITH THE BEAMS, MOMENTS MAY BE DEVELOPED ALONG EDGES WHICH HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN DESCRIBED AS "DISCONTINUOUS." TESTS HAVE SHOWN THAT IN THE CASES IN WHICH THE TORSIONAL STRENGTH OF THE BEAMS IS ADEQUATE, SUCH MOMENTS APPRECIABLY AFFECT THE BEHAVIOR AND STRENGTH OF THE SLAB AND COULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN DESIGNING IN ACCORDANCE WITH YIELD-LINE THEORY. BENDING-MOMENT COEFFICIENTS FOR THE DESIGN OF SLABS OF SUCH BEAM-AND-SALB PANELS ARE PRESENTED. /RRL/
