INFLUENCES ON THE RESULTS OF COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TESTS ON CONCRETE

CONCRETE QUALITY IS DEFINED AS THE MEAN COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF AT LEAST THREE CUBES OF 20 CM EDGE LENGTH WHICH IS FABRICATED IN A PRESCRIBED MANNER, CURED AND TESTED AT THE AGE OF 28 DAYS. HARDENING TESTS ARE INTENDED TO SHOW WHICH STRENGTH THE CONCRETE PRESUMABLY ATTAINS IN THE STRUCTURE AT A SPECIFIC POINT OF TIME. JUST WHAT CUBE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH REALLY IS ATTAINED BY THE SAME FRESH CONCRETE IN THE STRUCTURE, HOWEVER, IS NOT YET KNOWN FROM THIS INASMUCH AS THE DIFFERENT FABRICATION AND CURING CONDITIONS BETWEEN CUBE TEST SPECIMEN AND STRUCTURAL CONCRETE MUST LEAD TO DIFFERENT CONCRETE STRENGTHS. FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF A STRUCTURE, HOWEVER, THE STRUCTURAL STRENGTH OF THE CONCRETE IS DECISIVE. IT CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED BY TESTING WORKED OUT SPECIMENS, SINCE WITH NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTS ALONE NO RELIABLE FINDING IS POSSIBLE. IT IS THEREFORE IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH RESULT IS INFLUENCED BY THE REMOVING OF THE SPECIMENS, THROUGH THE FORM AND SIZE OF THE SPECIMENS AND ALSO BY THE PREPARATION OF THE AREA OF PRESSURE. LABORATORY TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS. THEY WERE ALSO INTENDED TO SHOW WHAT DIFFERENCES IN COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH CAN OCCUR FUNDAMENTALLY BETWEEN THE CONCRETE IN THE STRUCTURE AND IN THE RELEVANT TEST CUBE SPECIMEN. VARIOUS INFLUENCES ON THE RESULTS OF THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TESTS WERE INVESTIGATED FOR DIFFERENT FRESH CONCRETE CONSISTENCIES AND STRENGTH CLASSES. /RRL/
