Abstract:

Abstrac: This work establishes that an important part of the potential market for the intermodalism would come from the truck transport mode, this is, the demand that could be generated for freight railroad transport using containers -on the longest part of the trajectory would result from the deviation of flows transported at the moment by road. For this reason, the analysis is centered in flows of goods moved at the moment by truck mode. So, was done the identification of the regions or states with more opportunities for the intermodal transport road-railroad considering the international Mexico - United States, the external trade of Mexico which enters or exits using Mexican ports and the domestic market. The opportunities are determined starting from flows with series of such approaches as the weigh (in tons), journey distances, economic density, degree of expiration and accessibility to the railroad. With the potential market for the intermodal transport, the next step was to project the potential flows for the years 2010 and 2025 according to four possible scenarios, which consider the growth of the country with regard to their commercial partners of the North America Free Trade Agreement and according to the dynamics in the relative weight of Mexican state economies.
