Savannah Hybrid Streetcar

The Savannah Hybrid Streetcar is a breakthrough for application of technology, a breakthrough for the environment, and a breakthrough for common sense applications in transit. This description will highlight the application of technologies resulting in the creation of the world’s first hybrid streetcar. A focus will be on the adaptation of technologies proven in extreme industrial applications to the rigors of the rail environment. It will document the robust energy conservation developed through the regenerative braking system which is producing a 60 to 70 percent energy regeneration in each start to stop run cycle. The Savannah Hybrid Streetcar is unique for other reasons as well. This document will explain how such a new concept could move from vision to reality in a short 18 months. Equally important we will show how this car could be delivered for probably only 65% what anyone would otherwise quote a final cost. This is a result having been done in an era when new has cost more, not less.
