Driving Support System for Approaching Intersections with Stop Signs
This paper reports on the development of a driving support system that uses the car navigation system when approaching intersections with stop signs. When the vehicle approaches an intersection with a stop sign, the system informs the driver of the approaching stop sign by using an audio message and navigation system screen display. If the driver appears to be unaware of a stop sign, the system will caution the driver and assist driver’s rapid braking. To develop this driving support system, the authors researched the braking behavior of general drivers at intersections with stop signs and created an ergonomic design. The authors conclude that this system could be used to improve driving behavior at intersections with stop signs.
