Environmental guidelines for the transport sector until 2010. A follow-up report 2007

Liikenteen toimintalinjat ymparistokysymyksissa vuoteen 2010. Seuranta 2007

In March 2005, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland adopted its third environmental programme, Environmental guidelines for the transport sector until 2010. The programme defines the key environmental guidelines, goals, measures and indicators for all modes of transport for the period of 2005-2010. The implementation of the programme will be reviewed every year. This follow-up report is the third of its kind; the previous ones were published in summer 2006 and in spring 2007. The development trends in environmental issues in the transport sector have been approximately the same in the 2000s. The exhaust gas emissions and particulate pollutants from traffic have reduced and will continue to reduce due to the development in vehicle and fuel technology. There have been no significant changes in water pollution control, soil protection, reductions in material use, and protection of natural diversity. The situation in carbon dioxide and noise emissions is clearly deteriorating as they have increased in the 2000s in line with the growth in transport volumes.
