Taking health seriously
The completion of one of the world's largest cable-stayed bridges, the Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong, will be accompanied by the introduction of the operational phase of a major bridge structural health monitoring system. The system will consist of 1420 sensors which will monitor both environmental conditions (wind, temperature and seismic loading) in addition to traffic loads. To obtain a complete life history health record for the bridge a construction stage health monitoring system will also been implemented. The bridge is owned by the Hong Kong Highways Department.
