Study of Heavy Truck Accidents with Focus on Manoeuvres Causing Loss of Control
The authors present a heavy truck accident analysis with respect to loss of control, based on the Large Truck Crash Causation Study database. Analysis of heavy truck accidents included different road characteristics, vehicle combination types, critical maneuvers, loss of control types, and accident types. The most common loss of control-causing maneuvers were identified as three critical maneuvers. There was adaptation of relevant existing test maneuvers for trucks based on accident analysis results, which were then compared for suitable heavy truck yaw stability evaluation on dry and level road testing. A 5DOF tractor-trailer model in Matlab-Simulink was used to conduct the comparison.
