Network design for public transport success: theory and examples
This paper is about the design of public transport service concepts and networks in urban and rural districts. An attempt has been made to define some basic concepts that are useful for public transport planners and decision makers when they want to create high quality public transport services in their region. The paper is based on the authors' work for the HiTrans Interreg III-project, recent work on a good practice guide for public transport system design in rural and small town regions for the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications and earlier literature studies and consultancy work for various public transport bodies in Norway.
