The needs of business life. How to develop the systematics for needs analyses and needs information management

Elinkeinoelaman tarpeet. Tarpeiden analysoinnin ja tarvetiedon hallinnan systematiikan kehittaminen

The aim of the project has been to develop the analysis and management of the transportation needs of business life in respect to the transport system, especially road transport. The needs of business life have a great importance in transport policy. The result of the project is a systematic approach to analyze and present the needs of business life and the underlying logistics features. The study can be divided into three parts: (1) The segmentation of busines life; (2) The reasoning chain from logistic activities to transportation service level factors and further to the features of transport system and road maintenance;and(3) Summary cards for each business segment. The business sector-based segmentation serves the identification of user needs in the transport system level. The formed reasoning chain enables analysis of the dependencies between logistics and transport system features as a whole. The input data to the reasoning process comes from the logistics features of each business segment. The summary cards contain the conclusions about the logistics and transport system needs for each business segment. The conclusions are based on the reasoning chain model and statistics. The cards are presented in the appendix of the report. The segmentation, the reasoning chain and the summary cards should be tested in practical planning. Furthermore, the presented systematic should be kept up-to-date and developed. The segmentation should be further developed in order to more accurately diversify the needs for roads, rail network and sea transport. The contents of the cards should be expanded to other transport modes. The presented systematic is one tool in customer-oriented transport planning, in which the understanding of customer needs is the key. The actual challenge is, however, to combine the customer. needs and the aims regarding safety, environmental protection and social justness in a technically and economically feasible way.
