Don't accept the inevitable!
In the UK freight industry, theft is seen as an unavoidable business cost. Data from the Metropolitan Police unit TruckPol puts the value of stolen loads at more than #70-80 million. Not all police forces and vehicle operators report data into TruckPol and the figures do not account for vehicle damage, driver injury, customer disruption and increases in insurance premiums. Thefts range from opportunistic thefts to highly organised gang crime. Companies involved in the movement of high value goods attract infiltration deceptionists. The Freight Transport Association suggests that companies should develop a security plan. Advice is given on recruitment in order to prevent crime and on theft prevention for drivers.
