U.S. DOT Offers Six-Point Plan to Fight Congestion
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) has developed a National Strategy to Reduce Congestion on America’s Transportation Network for road, seaport, and air congestion. The strategy consists of six key areas: relieving congestion in urban areas by means of congestion pricing and expanding bus services; removing barriers for private sector investors to own part of the transportation infrastructure; encouraging higher-efficiency at the policy and technology level; staging a competition to determine the three to five best transportation areas for long-term investment; analyzing the national freight system to locate and correct bottlenecks; and expediting previously planned aviation congestion reduction projects.
