Barendrecht - the first Dutch rail tunnel with a deluge sprinkler system
The Betuweroute will transport (dangerous) goods, introducing the risk of potential large fires and explosions. The first tunnel to be completed is the cargo tube of enclosure Barendrecht. Within the Netherlands, it is the first rail tunnel with a deluge sprinkler system. The main purpose of the deluge system is not to extinguish fire, but to minimize the consequences of a fire. The objective of this paper is to discuss the Barendrecht functional requirements, the design in relation to other installations, and the commissioning of the deluge sprinkler system. (A)
