Get into the groove...
The Farseer Safety Groove was developed by Mikopa Oy in Finland to help keep windscreens clean. It involves precision-grinding a 0.3mm deep, 3.5mm wide groove into the windscreen just above the resting position of the wipers. Each time the wipers pass over the groove, the dirt, chemicals and water that accumulate on the screen are scraped off the wiper blades. The system improves driver visibility, resulting in improved safety. The Safety Groove system has won numerous awards in Finland because of the effect it has had on road safety. Insurance companies in Finland offer a discount to drivers who have the system applied. Finland's police cars, ambulances and rental cars have the grooves applied. Tests have shown that the grooves do not weaken the windscreen. Wipers wear down faster, but they wear down evenly. Farseer has the worldwide distribution rights for the system.
