A technical review of BA79 'The management of sub-standard structures'

In 1998, a National Working Group, chaired by the Highways Agency and including representatives from major UK bridge owners and consultants, produced BA79 'The Management of Sub-standard Structures'. Its aim was to provide guidance on the management of structures found to be sub-standard following assessment as part of the 15-year programme of bridge rehabilitation ("the bridge programme"). This paper presents a number of the key issues identified from an investigation into its use within the UK bridge management community and where appropriate makes proposals as to how they could be addressed.
