AFFORDABLE WI-FI : MOBILE REGIONAL AIRPORT HAS ADDED BOTH A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND A REVENUE STREAM BY INSTALLING A WIRELESS NETWORK FOR INTERNET ACCESS
This article describes how the Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) in Alabama implemented a wireless Internet capability in order to meet the demands of its business travelers and maintain a competitive edge over local competing airports. The article relates how a revenue sharing agreement was established with a service provider, allowing MOB to have a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network without having to support the costs involved in building the system. An overview is given of the wireless network infrastructure, with the article relating how MOB is pursuing a new initiative which would bring private wireless applications to the airport authority, airlines, and vendors.
