BITUMINOUS MIXES WITH A HIGH RATE OF RECYCLING: EXPERIMENTATION ON A MOTORWAY

Taking into account the lawful constraints of setting in dump site and obligation to save the natural resources, the rehabilitation of wearing and base courses by milling and recycling the bituminous mixes of a plant at very high rates becomes a major stake. An experimentation carried out on motorway A10 Tours-Poitiers is presented in this article. The mechanical performances obtained on 50% recycled bituminous mixes used for the base course are equivalent to those obtained with 100% of new materials. Resistance and permeability of the 40% recycled porous asphalt are in conformity with the usual values. These high rates of recycling and the quality of the bituminous mix manufactured could be obtained by using a plant with double drum which produces a little quantity of dust and COV (volatile organic compounds). The follow-up of the section and the evaluation of the behavior of these bituminous mixes in time are carried out with the Regional Laboratory of the French Administration.
