DRIVER MONITORING AND TRAFFIC RISK ESTIMATION
Driver drowsiness (hypovigilance) is a major cause of road accidents. ADAS applications may in the future make driving more monotonous and thereby increase the occurrence of driver hypovigilance. On the other hand ADAS technology may also provide the solution to this very problem. The objective of the AWAKE project is the development of an unobtrusive and real-time in-vehicle system to detect driverhypovigilance. Part of the AWAKE system is a module to estimate the risk level of the instantaneous traffic situation around the vehicle. This risk level will then be correlated to the driver's vigilance level, and the warning level will be adapted to match the estimated danger.
