REACHING THE LIMIT
The impact of EU proposals to extend speed limiters to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes is discussed. Controversy over whether accidents will be prevented and lives saved by this policy is described. Speed limiters would have no effect on urban distribution vehicles but could increase congestion and journey times on motorways. If more operators switched to smaller vans, congestion and fuel consumption would increase.
