EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF SEISMIC REPAIR AND RETROFIT OF BRIDGE COLUMNS BY COMPOSITE JACKETS
The paper summarizes comprehensive experimental studies on half scale bridge columns retrofitted with advanced composite jackets The investigation was composed of two interrelated subprograms, with the first testing a total of 14 half scale squat circular and rectangular reinforced concrete columns under fully reversed cyclic shear in a double bending configuration; and the second constructing 13 half scale circular and rectangular column models with short lap-splice details at the base that were tested in flexure under lateral cyclic loading. The study results are presented as proving that advanced composite material jackets are an effective measure to repair and retrofit squat circular and rectangular bridge columns with insufficient shear reinforcement.
