THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SKILLED WORKFORCE TO THE DELIVERY OF THE GOVERNMENT'S TRANSPORT OBJECTIVES

The skills required to meet the transport requirements of the UK are outlined. These include construction skills, where it is estimated that 300,000 people are needed in the next five years just to replace those who are leaving, yet applications to construction-based courses are declining. Other skills required include integrating design and construction, value engineering, costing, information technology, and project and risk management. The need for improved training in the transport sector is discussed. The benefits of improved industrial relations are debated. For the covering abstract see ITRD E112212.
