COMPLEX MODULUS AND PHASE ANGLE - MAIN PARAMETERS TO CHARACTERIZE AN ASPHALT MIXTURE FROM RHEOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW

This report is concerned with the bituminous mixtures test at fatigue. The fatigue distress of the asphalt concrete must be taken into account for pavement design procedures. Therefore, it is necessary to determine certain characteristics concerning the fatigue behaviour of the asphalt mixture. The apparatus that was used is based on the flexure of prismatic samples, under a given sinusoidal strain, constant in time. This study provides some information concerning complex modulus and phase angle for asphalt mixtures with different types of bitumen, different test temperatures and different stiffness but with the same aggregate gradation, aggregate type and asphalt content. Results from this paper indicate how much the fatigue mix behaviour with the test temperatures is influenced. For the covering abstract see ITRD E107185.
