DEVELOPMENTS IN CRUSHING TECHNOLOGY

This paper outlines the driving forces being exerted on the aggregates crushing industry by public pressures. These pressures include strict legislation and standards, and that their engineering and environmental quality requirements are placing on the industry. The paper then surveys some of the ways in which manufacturers of crushing and screening equipment are responding to their customers' needs. The equipment supplier's role has changed, and manufacturers have returned to basic principles, but it has proved difficult to reduce the number of crushing stages. Finally, the paper examines in more detail advances in the key fields of cone crushing, crusher automation, and mobile crushing and screening plants. Modern cone crushers, supported by heavy-duty high-performance primary and secondary crushers, can make quality aggregates and manufactured sand economically. However, future machines will need to be even more flexible, by providing a wider reduction ratio while producing the required high-quality products. Automation makes crushers more productive and easier to use. Optimal performance is achieved by comparing actual values with optimal values, and responding immediately to any difference between them. Mobile plants greatly extend the application of economic environmentally-friendly crushing.
