DEVELOPMENT OF THE AHS SAFE DRIVING SYSTEM
The research and development of the automatic driving system and safe driving system are now being conducted as the AHS (Automated Highway System) by the Ministry of Construction and corporations. Sumitomo Electric has for many years been researching and developing ITS-related systems and products. The authors have recently developed a vehicle incorporating these basic technologies and utilizing information supplied by the road infrastructure to realize the safe driving system. This system features: (1) incident detection and warning function; (2) lane deviation warning function; and (3) collision prevention function. This vehicle was demonstrated in the road test conducted in September 1996 on the Joshinetsu Expressway in Nagano Prefecture. For the covering abstract, see IRRD 490001.
