VIDEO FOR TRAFFIC DATA AND INCIDENT DETECTION BY TRAFICON
Video based systems for traffic data collection and incident detection offer the information needed by traffic managers for efficient handling of incidents, thus enhancing the safety level for road users (e.g. less secondary incidents). Using video lives up to all major quality criteria. It is cost effective, since cameras are often present and maintenance essentially consists in cleaning. It is efficient and reliable, showing a high detection rate, a low rate of false detection, a high mean time between failures. It is modular. It provides the operator with a maximum of information (type of incident, severity, location...) permitting a fast verification, confirmation or annulment of an alarm. Other traffic data provided are volume, speed, length classification, occupancy, queue detection, etc. Installation requirements focus on the characteristics of the camera: position, distance, focal length and angle.
