A REPORT ON THE BOEING FLEET LOCATION AND INFORMATION REPORTING SYSTEM ( FLAIR)

The Boeing Fleet Location and Information Reporting system (FLAIR) is described. This system automatically and simultaneously tracks displays, and indicates the status of all vehicles within an operating fleet. Vehicle direction and status are reported to the control center using a secure digital communications link. Dead reckoning and digital map matching computational techniques are used to determine the position of each vehicle. The simultaneous location and status of all vehicles within the fleet are displayed against a map of the tracking area on a color television screen. System accuracy, and the impacts of alternate sensors, sensor resolutions and tracking techniques upon system accuracy, are discussed.
