PARKING PERIODS FOR PASSENGER CARS BY STARTING PLACE AND TIME

PERSONBILARS PARKERINGSTIDER UPPDELAT PAA STARTPLATS OCH TIDPUNKT

Conditions when starting a car are of great importance in estimating emissions. The quantity of emitted pollutants depends among other things on engine temperature. Data on the duration of parking may be of use in estimating engine temperature at start. This publication presents the result of an analysis of data from a travel survey. Distributions of parking periods as a function of starting place and time have been obtained. The time a car has been parked before the first start of the observed day (night parking) has been studied separately from other parking periods. Since the exact lengths of night parking periods could not be obtained from available data, approximations are presented. Most of the parking periods, except night parking, are short. Comparisons are made with data from other investigations. (A)
