USING THE BICYCLE FOR WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT IN AFRICA
Without access to vehicles, women in Mozambique are forced to spend as much as six hours a day collecting and carrying water, firewood, and agricultural supplies, mostly on their heads. With so much time consumed meeting the family's basic needs, Mozambican women and their children are trapped living at subsistence levels. Providing women access to basic mobility via a bicycle is one step towards breaking out of the cycle of subsistence-level poverty.
