INFLUENCING THE CAR MOBILITY

BEINVLOEDING AUTOMOBILITEIT

The Dutch national traffic and transport policy is aimed at the reduction of the use of the car. The reasons for the decrease are well known: the growth of the use of the car causes for many problems of accessibility, environment and traffic safety. For a good management of such a policy the cooperation of the local authority is needed, but most local authorities have mostly not the opportunities and insights to reduce car use. This report presents a survey using the following questions: (1) which measures are available for the local authority to reduce the use of the car, (2) which role plays the infrastructure in the reduction of the use of the car, (3) can these measures be realized, (4) how much are the costs of the measures, (5) what is the efficacy of these measures, and (6) can the public opinion be positive for the measures?
