WAVE RESISTANCE OF A CARAVAN OF SHIPS
The wave resistance of a caravan of ships moving in a rectangular section channel with finite depth is studied in this paper. The ships are represented by a stepped distribution of sources and sinks at finite depth. The thin ship theory is applied to derive the expression for wave resistance. The side banks are replaced by an infinite series of image sources and sinks. Total wave resistance including interaction forces of a caravan of ships is considered by the Lagally theorem. In the present study, the effects of the side walls, the water depth , the spacing between ships and the number of ships to establish wave resistance are investigated. The wave resistance for different cases has been computed and plotted.
