COST 306: EUROPE'S EDI TRIALS BEGIN
COST 306, a project involving a comprehensive testing of data transmission across international boundaries using electronic data interchange (EDI), got underway in September 1988 and is expected to run through the summer of 1989. The mission of COST 306 is to come as close as possible to a paperless trading environment. Messages formulated for use during COST 306 accord with EDIFACT, the United Nations-sponsored specifications for EDI syntax. The messages cover provisional international transport booking; firm booking; transport order; order contract status; transport schedule change; transport charges; and international transport response. Eleven nations are participating in the trials.
