BREAKING THE ICE BARRIER
Two predictor equations for icebreaker hull shapes have evolved from model basin tests. Both equations were derived from multiple regression techniques using raw data. Neither equation can account for hull roughness. The installation of air bubbler manifolds along the turn- of-the-bilge line in bulk carriers enables them to make passage through brash without becoming stuck.
