CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS FOR STEEL CONSTRUCTION COMPOSITION: DEVELOPMENT AND DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEMS, PART 1

Because of the perceptible need for a classification system to encompass components of steel structures, the authors propose the development of such a system in this paper. A pertinent description of the shapes of the parts and its production processes would form an integral part of this system. An identification and numbering system for the steel components as well as machining, dimensions and material specifications would also be assimilated into the code. As a reference, the VDW classification system was used as a point of departure as it has already proved successful in other related areas.
