INCREASED COMPETITIVENESS THROUGH GOVERNMENT/INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The author describes the need for Canada to invest greater sums in Reseach and Development if it is to remain competitive in the global transportation market. Among the many suggestion for improving Canada's R & D record are the following : 1) Joint government /industry initiatives; 2) The creation of an efficient process for technology implementation and transfer; and 3) That the Canadian transportation industry perform R & D in order to develop innovative marketable products.
