SITE ADMINISTRATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE . 28TH ARRB REGIONAL SYMPOSIUM, TOOWOOMBA, QUEENSLAND. PROGRAM AND PAPERS

The site administration of quality assurance is very important to the progress and performance of a project. This paper reviews the main features of site administration on the Sunshine Motorway. The two most important components of work on the Sunshine Motorway were: roadway earthworks and pavements. Approximately 50 per cent of quality or compliance testing was carried out on pavement, followed by 25 per cent on roadway earthworks and 14 per cent on concrete structures. The effectiveness of quality assurance depends on how it is administered by personnel in the system. The project manager and quality representative have the most important roles in quality assurance. The largest criticism of quality assurance has been the paperwork load. Streamlining of the system and the introduction of computers have made improvements to this. Quality assurance has a dual aim of improving quality and reducing unit costs. How well this is achieved depends on how well the contractor administers his quality assurance, and the attitude to and administration of the quality assurance concept by the engineer (A). For the covering record of the Symposium, see IRRD number 823018.
