This paper makes a plea for the use of a traffic information system. This means that the relation between traffic data and the network of roads is maintained throughout the data acquisition stage and right up until the data is presented. Traffic safety in an area in vught is studied using this network approach. Using the vor location network, the available data on accidents, traffic flows and road functions are analysed in order to formulate policy to increase traffic safety. (TRRL)
