THE USE OF QUEUEING MODELS IN DESIGN OF BAGGAGE CLAIM AREAS AT AIRPORTS

Space requirements for baggage claiming at airports can be greatly influenced by the interrelationship of passenger and baggage arrival patterns at the baggage claim area. This report discusses the development of a deterministic queueing model to explain these interrelationships. The model provides a means of analysing the effect that different baggage delivery strategies have on the amount of space needed to handle baggage for an arriving flight.
