Protection of signal boxes and railway control posts means among other things protection from electricity hazards, environmental hazards and acts of violence. The need for protection stems partly from the technical sophistication of the installations themselves and is supported by a series of regulations which are designed to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic.
