ESTIMATION OF LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL OF SANDY SOILS

A SIMPLE PROCEDURE TO PREDICT LIQUEFACTION OF SANDY SUBSOILS DURING AN EARTHQUAKE IS PRESENTED. THE RANGES OF THE PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION SOILS WHICH MAY LIQUEFY DURING AN EARTHQUAKE ARE GIVEN. FOR SANDS WHICH, FROM THEIR PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS, ARE ESTIMATED TO HAVE A LARGE POSSIBILITY OF LIQUEFACTION, THE CRITICAL N-VALUE IS ALSO GIVEN. BY USING BOTH CRITERIA, THE LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL CAN BE ESTIMATED VERY SIMPLY. THE EXPERIMENTS UPON WHICH THE PROCEDURE DEPENDS ARE EXPLAINED. /AUTHOR/
