Discussion on Human Machine Interfaces in Vehicle - infrastructure Cooperative Safe Driving Support Systems (Fourth Report) - Presentation of Two Different Messages by Visual and Auditory Displays in Turning to the Right at an Intersection

インフラ協調安全運転支援システムの表示インターフェイスに関する検討(第4報)

If vehicle-infrastructure cooperative safe driving support systems are familiarized in traffic situation, some different messages about safety driving may be provided drivers at the same time. Human machine interface is one of the important issues to induce drivers' appropriate understanding of the messages from the systems. This research is aimed to suggest presentation methods of two different messages by visual and auditory displays when drivers will turn to the right at an intersection. The results of driving simulator experiment showed that if visual display about oncoming vehicle had turned off to present the other display although oncoming vehicles actually existed at the spot where drivers could not see directly, it gave rise to drivers' misunderstanding and an inadequate driving behaviour. The results also showed visual and auditory displays based on priority of messages were useful for drivers to understand the two different messages appropriately at the same time. Human machine interfaces of presenting drivers two different messages are discussed.
