The role of environmental policy in the maritime industry
Uloga ekološke politike u pomorskom brodarstvu
The sea represents the source of health, economics and national safety to each and every country that has the good fortune to be surrounded by it and the possibility of exploitation. Nowadays, however, the sea is burdened with growing maritime traffic. Sea-ships are very important for the growth of the global economy and traffic integration of countries. What is more, they have many other advantages. Nowadays when ecology and environmental control are current issues, the ship is put in the centre of interest as the source of contamination of the sea. An especially great threat comes from the oil tankers. It is a fact that if such an accident happens there would be fatal consequences for the sea and its environment. Thus, it is necessary to develop measures for the affirmation of ecological politics in the shipping industry. Also, shipping companies should be incited to respect the law and conventions that have as a goal sea protection.
