Realization of the AHS Service Based on the Vector Image Processing Method

Japan started the “ITS spot” service to realize the next generation intelligent transportation systems (ITS) service. The “ITS spot”, the Japan's new ITS services, (1) helps the On Board Unit (OBU) wisely choose the best route, (2) provides the cruise-assist information and (3) is equipped with the toll collecting function. Toshiba developed the Advanced Cruise-Assist Highway System (AHS) which detects hazardous events at curves in Sangubashi and Shinjuku such as congestion and standing vehicles and provides running vehicles with cruise-assist information, delivered to them by the Metropolitan Expressway Co., Ltd. along with the “ITS spot” service. In this paper, the authors will report on the details for the image processing unit for the AHS which applies the vector image processing technology.
