A category analysis approach to trip generation

This paper reports on the first phase of a research programme into person trip generation techniques. In particular, the concept of the category analysis approach to trip end productions is examined in detail. The methodology is developed and calibration techniques are also detailed. The significance of the postulated relationships is examined in the light of a small sample of Australian data, together with the suitability of the model as a result of these tests. It has been found that the model is amenable to Australian conditions and should prove suitable for trip end estimation by synthesis. Further work to be carried out involves the determination of the statistical suitability of the chosen categories and the stability of category trip rates between urban areas (a).
